Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max in China on September 25. The company skipped "16" entirely, jumping from the Xiaomi 15 straight to 17, the same number as Apple's new iPhones.
First with Qualcomm's newest chip
All three models are the first Android phones to ship with Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
A screen on the back
The 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max add a small rear display (about 2.6 inches) next to the cameras. Xiaomi calls it the Dynamic Back Display. It can show:
- Watch faces and AI wallpapers
- Notifications
- A viewfinder so you can take selfies with the main cameras
Specs at a glance
| Xiaomi 17 | Xiaomi 17 Pro | Xiaomi 17 Pro Max | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main display | 6.3-inch | 6.3-inch | 6.9-inch |
| Rear display | No | Yes | Yes |
| Battery | 7,000mAh | 6,300mAh | 7,500mAh |

| Starting price (China) | CNY 4,499 | CNY 4,999 | CNY 5,999 |
That works out to roughly $630, $700, and $840.
Cameras
Every model uses 50MP sensors across the board, including the front camera. The Pro Max adds a 5x periscope telephoto lens.
Availability
Sales in China begin September 27. Xiaomi has not announced a global date yet, but the Xiaomi 15 series followed a similar pattern and reached international markets the following spring.
The takeaway
Huge batteries, fast charging, and a creative rear screen at prices below the iPhone 17 Pro. The skip to "17" is a clear signal that Xiaomi wants shoppers comparing it directly with Apple.
